Atlas of anthropometric characteristics of Polish children and adolescents

About this work

Atlas of Anthropometric Characteristics of Polish Children and Youth - teamwork: J. Nuckowski, W. Pluta. The data visualization project, commissioned by the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw, consisted of nearly two hundred boards – atlas cards – in its basic version. Like many projects of that era, it was never implemented.

The design challenge lay in presenting the subtle transformations of a child into a young man, and then into a man, in yearly increments. The data was presented as silhouettes created using a shadow play effect. Several hundred photographs of children were taken using a specially designed station. After processing, these were used to create boards visualizing children in various positions necessary for identifying individual anthropometric characteristics.
