Analysis and concept of a comprehensive street visual information solution
About this work
I present a fragment of a comprehensive analysis and concept for a visual street communication project commissioned by Krakow's city artist, Jerzy Napieracz, in the year Annus horribilis 1982 – the year of martial law. Years later, I still find it hard to believe! Together with my colleagues Janusz Stobiecki and Andrzej Krakowian, we completed the analytical and design work, recorded on dozens of boards.
After the analysis of the existing situation presented in the title, we proposed a design concept based on visual research and knowledge of visual ergonomics. It was a flexible system that envisioned principles for creating order in the city's extremely complex visual information system. Our project significantly exceeded the concepts proposed years later by systems known as SIM (City Information System). It is impossible to present it in a condensed version. I present only a few boards that provide a rough outline of the visual communication issues.
