About this work

This medal may not belong in this category, but of the many medals I have created, this one is the most important for several reasons. I think it fits best into this group.

Since January 10, 1982, I have been collaborating with the Archbishop's Committee for Aid to Prisoners and Internees of the Archdiocese of Krakow. My participation in this noble endeavor lasted less than two years. In 1983, the initiators of the Committee were preparing for the visit of the Holy Father.

I was asked to design and create a medal to be presented during Holy Mass at Krakow's Błonia Park. The medal was cast in silver and mounted in a calfskin case. The case had space for the medal, but also for a specially prepared address to the Holy Father. I made three copies of the medal. The first, of course, went to John Paul II; the second, as far as I know, is in the collections of the Archdiocese of Krakow, and the last is in my possession.
